WHY I BLOG
If someone had told me a few years—or even a few months—ago that I’d start a blog… I’d have told them they were CRAZY! You see, I sometimes struggle with ‘sharing’ personal things, especially on the World Wide Web. That may sound counter-intuitive, since I chose a career as a TV News Anchor. It’s a job that not only puts me in the public eye… but also requires me to post daily on social media (yes, we actually have quotas we have to meet!). In fairness, social media wasn’t around when I started in this business decades ago. But… here we are. And as the broadcasting industry evolves and changes, I either have to keep up… or get out! I love what I do and choose to stay. So, I post. I am NOT judging anyone else who regularly engages in and enjoys social media interaction… but for me, it sometimes feels a bit narcissistic. And don’t even get me started on the mean-spirited, snarky and negative comments and responses that permeate social media. It all makes me feel uncomfortable and ‘icky’.
So why in the world did I start a blog? Hmm… well, I’m trying to be more open-minded. I do realize that social media and ‘sharing’ on the web can sometimes be useful, enlightening and even uplifting. After all, we are never too old or smart to learn, improve and grow. So perhaps sharing some of my career and life experiences—and the lessons I’ve learned along the way—might help or inspire someone else (and I look forward to hearing and learning from YOU, too!). It’s exactly what I do in my secondary career as a Motivational Speaker. So if I can ‘share’ on a stage, why not in a blog? So here goes… let me know what you think!
